What it is
Taria & Como is a physics-based puzzle platformer "where movement is built around swinging instead of jumping". Taria, a girl with a prosthetic leg, wakes in a facility run by the medtech company Toxtum Inc. after a disaster. Her little sister Como is missing, her leg has been swapped for an "approved" one that can't jump, and her helpful healthbot has been replaced by one programmed to restrict her. You aim the bot's tether with the crank, reel in and out, build momentum and kick off walls to get across each area. Along the way you find pages of Como's diary and hack kiosks (by cranking a dancing turtle until it glitches) to turn the healthbot to your side. Each chapter opens with an illustrated, crank-scrolled comic.
It's written and directed by Kip Henderson for Popseed Studio and JuVee Productions, the company led by Viola Davis and Julius Tennon, who are executive producers. The music, by Jesse Haugen with cello by Isaiah Gage, won Best Soundtrack at the 2025 Playdate Community Awards. Its content note is a joke in Toxtum's voice, warning of "dangerous themes of empowerment and personal responsibility".
It closed Playdate Season Two on 3 July 2025 (Week 6) alongside Black Hole Havoc and now sells for $12 in the Catalog. At the 2025 Community Awards it was also a finalist for Best Adventure Game and Best Narrative Game.
