What it is
"Discover a handcrafted pocket size world full of secrets!" In Resonant Tale you play the hooded adventurer Leit, who wakes on a wave-washed beach. It riffs on The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening with three dungeons, a limited inventory of items that open new areas Metroidvania-style, secrets everywhere and a final boss "just tough enough", as Simberg puts it. It's made in Pulp and is only 680 KB. It uses the D-pad and buttons, with rare crank use. The crank, precise-timing puzzles, boss battles and player damage can all be turned off from the title screen.
It's by Orange Thief Ltd (who later made Lolife), released in the Catalog in September 2023 for $5 (also on itch.io). At the 2023 Playdate Community Awards it won Best Adventure Game, Outstanding Technical Achievement in a Pulp Game and Outstanding Pulp Game of the Year (per the store page). Panic's staff note calls it "a giant little adventure that reimagines what is possible with Pulp", and it's in "Great Stories".
