What it is
"To a distant land a warrior returns." Lolife is "a retro open world action role playing game": you explore a hostile kingdom, fight beasts, deal with "unscrupulous soldiers" and pursue revenge. The store says the path you choose "matters as much as your strength and resolve", and you can cut down everyone or "use your wits to win the support of the people". Simberg compares it to Zelda II, Ys, Hydlide and the NES Zelda games for how little it tells you, and to Tunic for how its secrets unfold. You can play in real time or turn-based. Double damage, invincibility, the hint system and the occasional crank use can all be toggled, and the store links a hints-and-tips page. It's made in Pulp and is 245 KB.
It's by Orange Thief Ltd, "from the creator of Resonant Tale and the composer of Initial Daydream". It came to the Catalog in June 2025 for $5 (also on itch.io). At the 2025 Playdate Community Awards it was a finalist for Outstanding Pulp Game of the Year, Accomplishment in Accessibility and Outstanding Innovation in a Pulp Game.
