What it is
Fulcrum Defender is an arcade shooter in which you never move. A turret sits at the centre of a circular arena, shapes advance from every side, and you aim with the crank and fire with the D-pad. If too many reach the middle, it's game over. Points level you up, and each level offers a pick of new weapons and upgrades. Simberg mentions a wrecking-ball flail and guided shots. Shields regenerate if you avoid hits long enough. The How to Play goal is to survive ten minutes, and Engadget notes that "all hell breaks loose" after that.
It's from Subset Games, the studio behind FTL: Faster Than Light and Into the Breach, with Jay Ma as primary developer and music by Aaron Cherof. Update 1.06 added three new difficulty modes. The store page warns that play needs the D-pad and crank at the same time, with "a fair amount of precision".
Fulcrum Defender opened Playdate Season Two on 29 May 2025 (Week 1) alongside Dig! Dig! Dino!, and now sells for $6 in the Catalog.
