What it is
"General L. has gone missing", and the Dapper Fleet sends you to find him. Deep Space Dapper Squad is a top-down space shooter with roguelite runs. You dodge and blast rocks and aliens, earn money for short-term upgrades or permanent new ships (over 20 in total, each with its own special ability), and use black holes as portals to go "deeper and deeper" into space. Simberg singles out the energy system: firing drains energy, and you crank to recharge it, so you have to balance shooting, dodging and cranking. There's a daily run that's the same for everyone, and online scoreboards. The crank "requires no precision", and a "Quality" setting helps if the device struggles.
It's by Tomás Franco. It's been in the Catalog since June 2024 at $6 (and $8 on itch.io), and Panic lists it among its "Monochrome Masterworks". The store says it carries "a serious message with a funny sugarcoat on top".
