What it is
Cranky Cove puts you in charge of "a stubborn little town in need of a guiding hand". The screen has three concentric rings (workers, tools and materials), and you spin them with the crank to line up combinations that craft what customers are asking for. Basic items then feed into higher-tier recipes as orders get more demanding. The store lists over 100 craftable items, over 65 levels, "a heartfelt epistolary tale of love & adventure", a Crankipedia and achievements. You can switch to D-pad and buttons only, and the order timer can be turned off. A free demo is available.
It's by Jon Simantov, released in the Catalog in February 2025 for $10 and updated into 2026. Panic includes it in its "Game of the Year 2025" collection. At the 2025 Playdate Community Awards it was a finalist for Game of the Year, Best Puzzle Game and Best Arcade Game.
