What it is
Casual Birder is a "snap-'em-all adventure" set in seaside Bird Town, a birdwatcher's paradise until "some bad eggs moved in and shoved the competition out of the nest". You walk around a top-down town in the style of a handheld RPG, talk to its residents, solve small puzzles to lure birds into view, and fill your bird log with photos. Taking a picture switches to a camera view where the crank works the focus ring and the flat 2D scene gains a sense of depth. The writing is jokey and full of texting shorthand.
It's by Diego Garcia (Radstronomical), with music and sound by Max Coburn. It was one of the two Week 1 games of Season One, alongside Whitewater Wipeout, and it came free with the console. A walkthrough is linked from the store page.
