Angel Pop is a "mixed-media multidirectional bullet hell shooter". You play a young girl in a surreal dreamworld, weaving through bullet patterns "designed specifically around the Playdate screen". The store page lists more than 50 stages, 30-plus enemies, 15-plus original songs, 12 difficulty levels and three modes, with "up to 1000 objects on screen". It's inspired by doujin shooters and classic arcade shmups, and the store says a single perfect run takes about 20 minutes. You can play with the D-pad and buttons, or aim your fire with the crank, which means cranking constantly. There are online leaderboards.
It's by the solo developer Nnnn. It began as a Yellow Square Jam demo in October 2023 and reached the Catalog in June 2024 for $6. It won Best Action Game and Outstanding Technical Achievement at the 2024 Playdate Community Awards, Panic's staff note calls it "one of the most satisfying and impressively fast bullet hells on the Playdate", and it's in the "Crank Wonders" collection. The content note mentions "mild disturbing imagery".
